Commissions and Made to order

Bespoke Made to Order needle-felted animals

Each collection tends to sell out quite quickly, sometimes on the day it is released, so I offer a few spaces each month to make animals in the current or past collections you would like such as one of the creatures with a Kathy Anderson accessory, a book character like the seasonal folklore characters, Baby Weasus, Small or Bertram, or perhaps a light bringer or a Clock case scene with a mouse in a bed.

There are made to order slots available each month for these I will make your piece during that month, so if you need it for a particular date, make sure to book in time and do let me know.

You can book a ‘made to order slot’ below for the animal of your choice. I will then email you with details and put your piece up to buy below. If the slots are out of stock that month, try the next month. If I am full up, or the animal you’d like isn’t on the list, contact me and I’ll let you know when I have a space, as sometimes I find time in a month to squeeze something extra in, especially something small like a mouse or Small and sometimes people don’t take up their places

. Prices start at £60 See list below for prices of most common requests but you are welcome to ask for ones not listen below. . I can now take monthly payment options. You can arrange a number of months to pay for your purchase and I will send it to you once I have received the last payment. Just let me know if you’d like to do that when you order and we’ll set it up.

comission case studies

A commission for a Wish Gatherers themed nursery Clock Case as a gift for a new mum and baby.

Certainly an heirloom piece. Housed in a vintage clock case that has a door your can peep through or open to find the scene inside. A shelf of books, light up poppy light, wall hanging, toy basket with a wish gatherers rabbit and a ball, thimble bedside table with a raku fired mug, embroidered bed with stars, pillow and tiny patchwork quilt, hot water bottle, slippers and a tiny copy of the book. A needle punched rug on the floor.

“I just received the box and precious contents this morning and the detail is entrancing. I burst into tears when I read your dedication to Harriet inside the Wish Gatherers. You really have woven spells into your work and I could imagine baby mouse getting out of bed and putting on her slippers you have managed to capture such mouse spirit in her.

Thank you so much for doing what you do so skilfully in an age of mass production which overlooks the precious gems under our very noses. It's very clear to me how much you care about what you make as well as what it represents Thank you.”

— NS The person who commissioned the clock case shown.

a lifetime of love

How do you express a lifetime of love to someone? How do you find a present that shows half a century of shared life and love?

The next in the commission case study is a bit of a cheat because I am sharing one of mine that I made. Mostly because I can share more personal things on here more than someone who commissioned me might.

We don't always send presents, stuff for the sake of stuff. We swap books and she helps me out along the way, but I don't usually send a birthday present. But this one needed to be marked. I thought and wondered what to give and then I had a plan.

In the summer, while there with her, each day I collected a little something. A leaf, a shell, a piece of heather... I kept them safe and then when I got back I cast them in copper.

I made her a nature boat, one to hang where it could see the sea, my beloved view with my beloved people. I then attached all the charms I had cast to the boat and sat down the write a scroll to sit inside the boat.

Here is what I wrote: see photo

It was a little late in arriving but when it did, I made her cry. Happy Birthday Mangi x

Although it is work, and of course I want to sell things, I also wanted to show you what you could do as a present for someone. A way of showing your love because sometimes it is hard to know how to show your love with a gift.

You can collect things and post them to me and I will cast them and put them on the copper boat for you. Or you can ask me to cast things for you if you can't go out. I'll do my best to find what you need.

So, if you are wondering how to show someone what they mean to you, how to explain a shared love... perhaps this is a way.

You can buy an off the peg boat on my website with charms or you can commission me to make you one with as many charms as you need to tell your story. Because I'm not writing that bit for you!

basil the vole commission
Basil gets his tank top

Basil Finds a Home

Basil the Water Vole was made for the lovely Maggie who I had met at Craft in Focus at Wisley and then came on a needle felting workshop. Here he is in his new allotment showing his new tribe his name.

Maggie says "I was initially enchanted with the character of Bert and his gardening adventures and stories of his loveable water vole family and I was delighted to meet him at the craft fair at Wisley - along with Karin & King Norty too!

It was then I thought of asking if you (Karin) could make a water vole for my tribe - a "Bert cousin".

I wasn't sure how to go about commissioning a bespoke Water Vole at first but we met again at a mouse workshop and I discussed it seriously with her then and she was so good to work on him straight away checking all the details with me of the wool colour for his top and the tartan for his cap."

Maggie asked about a cousin for Bert to be called Basil and we discussed if she wanted him on his own or with a garden shed. One we had decided on what she wanted, I gave her a price. Usually I take money up front but for large commissions I can set up a payment plan option to pay over several months or a deposit and the remainder later.

Bert type Water voles come with a tank top and flat cap so I asked her if she had a colour she would prefer for his tank top.

I then ordered some Harris tweed offcuts for his hat and she helped Basil choose which he would like.

I had a bit of fun on social media with Basil we did a few animations of Basil choosing his wool and getting his tank top made by Bertram.

Bert took Basil to Mrs Badger's Wool Emporium to get some wool for His tank top. He's a bit embarrassed being a naked Vole so he wrapped himself up in his ...
